Activate your license
Activate your license key, understand what the license check sends, work offline, deactivate an installation and share the license with other admins of the tenant.
Kairavo is licensed per tenant. There is no Kairavo account. Your license key is all you need.
Activate your license key
Sign in to at least one tenant under Tenants and sign-in. See Connect your tenant.
Open License.
Under Activate this computer, paste your key into License key and select Save key.
Kairavo activates the key for every signed-in tenant. Check the tenant list at the bottom of the page.
For each tenant, the list shows:
- Licensed or Read-only
- License from: this machine's license key, or your organisation's license
- Last verified and Verified until: when the license was last checked, and until when it stays valid offline
Kairavo keeps the key in its encrypted store and shows only its last four characters. To use a different key, select Deactivate this machine first, then enter the new key.
Without a valid license
A tenant without a valid license is read-only. Its collected history stays available, and you can keep reading and exporting it. Collection, alerts and updates are paused until a license covers the tenant. Entering a valid key, or a later successful license check, restores everything.
License checks
Kairavo checks your license with the Kairavo licensing service at kairavo.com:
- when you save a key or select Check now
- when you sign in to a tenant or sign out of it
- every 6 hours while Kairavo runs, plus a random delay of up to 30 minutes
- at start and after your computer wakes, when the last check is more than a day old
- when you deactivate this machine
Requests use your system proxy settings. If the licensing service cannot be reached, Kairavo shows a message and suggests what to check. Ask your IT team to allow HTTPS requests to kairavo.com.
What the license check sends
- Your license key
- A random installation ID that Kairavo generates. It identifies the installation, not you or your hardware.
- The tenant ID being licensed
- Your operating system and the app version
- The activation ID, when Kairavo refreshes or releases an activation
For license sharing, Kairavo also sends the client ID of your app registration and a short-lived Microsoft ID token. The licensing service uses the token only to confirm the tenant and the app registration you signed in to, and does not store it.
The license check never sends device, user, policy or app data, and never your Microsoft Graph access or refresh tokens. See Privacy.
Working offline
Each successful check is valid for 30 days. Without network access, a licensed tenant keeps working until its Verified until date. When the licensing service cannot be reached, the License page says so.
Network errors never remove a valid license. Only a refusal from the licensing service ends a license early, for example when a key is revoked.
Deactivate an installation
Deactivate an installation when you move to another computer or stop using Kairavo on it.
On the old computer, open License.
Select Deactivate this machine. Kairavo releases every activation of this installation and forgets the key.
On the new computer, enter the key under License.
Signing out of a tenant under Tenants and sign-in releases the license activation for that tenant only.
Deactivating does not delete your collected history. It stays in the local database on the old computer.
Share the license with other admins
If your license key supports sharing, other admins of the same tenant can use your license without ever seeing your key.
On your computer, sign in to the tenant and activate your key. When you activate a key while signed in, Kairavo shares the license with that tenant by default.
The other admins install Kairavo and sign in to the tenant with the same app registration: the same tenant ID and application (client) ID.
Kairavo licenses them through your organisation. On their License page, License from shows "Your organisation's license" with the masked end of the key.
Sharing needs proof of the tenant. Kairavo sends a fresh Microsoft ID token from your sign-in, issued to the app registration you share. If your sign-in has expired, sign in to the tenant again.
If the tenant is already licensed through another key, Kairavo says so and leaves that sharing in place. The holder of that key can release it.
If your operating system's encryption is unavailable, Kairavo keeps the license in memory only. You must enter the key again after every restart.
