Dashboards

Build dashboards from ready KPIs and saved reports, arrange the tiles, compare with an earlier date and show them on a wallboard.

Dashboards show the numbers and charts you check every day. Open Dashboards in the sidebar. Every tile reads from the data Kairavo has collected for the selected tenant.

The first time you open a tenant, Kairavo creates the Overview dashboard for you. It has 9 tiles, such as compliance, managed devices and recent changes. You can change it like any other dashboard.

Dashboards belong to the tenant. Each dashboard holds up to 24 tiles.

Create a dashboard

Next to the dashboard tabs, select New dashboard.

Enter a Dashboard name and select Create dashboard.

The new dashboard opens empty. Select Add tile to fill it, or Use the Overview layout to start from the same 9 tiles as the Overview dashboard.

Switch between dashboards with the tabs. To rename or delete a dashboard, open the Dashboard options menu (the three dots at the end of the tab bar) and select Rename or Delete dashboard. Deleting a dashboard removes its layout for everyone who uses this tenant. Saved reports stay available.

Select Add tile. The gallery opens with categories on the left: Devices, Compliance, Security, Changes, Policies and apps, Alerts and Saved reports.

Pick a category, or type in the search box to search all 49 KPIs by name, description or category.

Each card shows a live preview with your data. Click a card to add it to the first free spot on the board, or drag the card to the place where you want it.

Add a report or saved query as a tile

The Saved reports category of the gallery lists the reports you saved to My reports, and any saved queries.

  • A saved report becomes a Number tile with the exact row count of the report.
  • A saved query becomes a Table tile.

Click the tile, or open its menu and select Open report or Open query, to see the rows behind it.

You can also add a report from the Reports page. Open the report, select Add to dashboard, choose Chart or Number, pick the dashboard and select Add to dashboard. See Reports.

If the Saved reports category is empty, save a report in Reports first. The gallery shows the hint "Save a report in Reports to add it here."

Change a tile's visualization

Hover over a tile, or move focus to it, to see its tools.

Select the chart icon in the tile header. The Show as panel opens.

Pick a visualization. Kairavo only offers the kinds that fit the tile's data.

Adjust the options the panel shows for that kind:

  • Title: rename the tile.
  • Time range: 7 days, 30 days or 90 days, for trends drawn as a line, area, column or number with trend.
  • Show: Top 3 to Top 12, for breakdowns drawn as a bar, column, donut, pie or stacked bar.
  • Show legend: for donut, pie and stacked bar charts.

The visualizations are:

VisualizationUse it for
NumberOne value
Number with trendOne value with its recent history
GaugeA percent or a score only
Line chart, Area chartA value over time
Bar chart, Column chartA breakdown, or a value per day
Donut chart, Pie chart, Stacked barParts of a whole
TableEvery row of the data
ListShort lists of items, such as devices or tokens

Open the details of a tile

Click a tile, or select Expand in its menu, to open it large. The expanded view shows the chart with its legend and the data or items behind it. From there you can open the matching report with Open report, or the related page, such as Open Devices.

The tile menu (the three dots in the tile header) also has Remove tile.

Drag and resize tiles

The board has 12 columns.

  • Move a tile: grab it anywhere on its body and drag it to a new spot. The other tiles make room.
  • Resize a tile: drag its right edge, its bottom edge or its bottom right corner.
  • Use the keyboard: focus a tile, then use the arrow keys to move it. Hold Shift with the arrow keys to resize it. Press Enter to open its details.

Every change saves right away. While a save is in progress, the bar above the board shows "Saving…".

In a narrow window the tiles stack in one column. To change the order there, open a tile's menu and select Move up or Move down.

Compare with an earlier date or snapshot

Comparison shows each tile's current value next to an earlier one.

Select Compare in the bar above the board.

Under Compare with, pick 1 week ago, 1 month ago or 3 months ago. To use another day, pick a date in the date field and select Compare.

To compare with a named snapshot, pick it under Snapshots.

The button changes to Compared with and the chosen date or snapshot. To stop comparing, open the panel again and select Off.

Take a snapshot

A snapshot saves the current values of the dashboard's tiles under a name, for example before a rollout.

Select Compare.

Type a name in the Snapshot name field and select Take snapshot.

The dashboard switches to compare with the new snapshot. To delete a snapshot, select the trash icon next to it in the Snapshots list.

A tile shows "Not in this snapshot." when you added it after the snapshot was taken. A past date can also be unavailable for a tile when no data was collected for it at that time.

Wallboard mode

Wallboard mode shows one tile at a time, large, and rotates through all tiles of the dashboard. It suits a screen in the office.

Open the Dashboard options menu and select Wallboard.

The tiles rotate every 20 seconds. Use Pause rotation, Resume rotation and Next tile to control it.

Select Exit wallboard to return to the board.

To change the rotation speed, open Dashboard options, select Rename and set Wallboard rotation (seconds) to a value from 10 to 120.

Refresh and data freshness

Tiles show the data Kairavo has already collected for the tenant. They do not call Microsoft Graph when you open the dashboard.

  • Select Refresh at the top of the page to read the latest collected data again.
  • The bar above the board shows Updated with the time of the last refresh.
  • Hover over a tile's title to see when its data was last observed. The expanded view of a tile shows the same time.
  • When a value cannot be computed, for example because nothing has been collected yet, the tile says so instead of showing zero.
