Install Kairavo

System requirements, installers for Windows and macOS, where Kairavo stores its data and what happens when you uninstall.

Kairavo runs on Windows and macOS. Each installation keeps its own local database on the computer it runs on.

System requirements

PlatformRequirement
WindowsWindows 10 or Windows 11 on a 64-bit (x64) processor
macOSA Mac with Apple silicon (arm64) or an Intel processor (x64)

You also need:

  • An Entra app registration in your tenant. See Create your app registration.
  • An Intune admin account. Kairavo sees what your Intune role and scope tags allow.
  • HTTPS access to Microsoft sign-in, Microsoft Graph and the Kairavo licensing service at kairavo.com.

Installers

Every release has these installers. <version> is the version number. The release also contains macOS .zip archives, which the built in updater uses.

FileUse
Kairavo-<version>-win-x64.exeWindows installer
Kairavo-<version>-mac-arm64.dmgmacOS, Apple silicon
Kairavo-<version>-mac-x64.dmgmacOS, Intel
Kairavo-<version>-mac-arm64.pkgmacOS package, Apple silicon. Installs to /Applications
Kairavo-<version>-mac-x64.pkgmacOS package, Intel. Installs to /Applications

Released installers are signed. On Windows, the installer and the app files are code signed. On macOS, the app is signed with a Developer ID and notarized by Apple, and the package is signed with a Developer ID Installer certificate.

Install

Run Kairavo-<version>-win-x64.exe.

Choose whether to install Kairavo for yourself only or for all users of the computer. You can also change the installation folder.

Finish the installer. It creates a desktop shortcut.

Start Kairavo.

The local database needs the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable (x64). Most computers already have it. If it is missing, Kairavo tells you that the local database needs it. Install it from Microsoft and start Kairavo again.

First start

On first start, Kairavo creates its local database. This takes a few seconds. The "Tenants and sign-in" screen shows the status under Local database. When it reads "The local database is ready.", you can sign in.

On macOS, if the system asks whether Kairavo may use its Keychain item, allow it. Kairavo uses the Keychain to protect your sign-ins and license.

Next, create your app registration.

Where Kairavo stores data

Kairavo keeps everything in its app data folder:

PlatformApp data folder
Windows%APPDATA%\Kairavo
macOS~/Library/Application Support/Kairavo
  • Local database. Collected data and history live in a local PostgreSQL database in the database folder. It accepts connections from 127.0.0.1 only, so other computers cannot reach it.
  • Sign-ins and license. Sign-in tokens, your license key and other secrets are kept in an encrypted store. Windows protects it with DPAPI, macOS with the Keychain. Both bind it to your user account on that computer.
  • Logs. Logs stay in the logs folder on your computer.

To see or move the database folder, open Preferences and go to Local database. Show data folder opens it. Change location picks another folder on a local disk. Network folders are not supported. Kairavo uses the new folder after a restart.

Uninstall

Uninstall Kairavo from Settings, Apps in Windows.

Uninstalling keeps your app data folder. If you install Kairavo again, it finds your history, sign-ins and license again.

To remove all local data, delete the app data folder after you uninstall. This deletes your collected history. To release your license first, open License and select Deactivate this machine before you uninstall. See Activate your license.

To deploy Kairavo with Intune and control updates centrally, see Updates.
